here’s a thing

Saturday, July 21st, 2007

when i got back from lunch on thursday jeff was working on a stool design based on weaving triangles into a cube. as soon as i saw his models i got excited and started helping him out (or at least started trying to tackle it in a comletely different way). i tried to figure out if you could make a cube out of one continuous ribbon and the closest thing that i came up with is this.

now, if you take this shape, cut it out and fold it on the lines, the triangles will meet back up after making half of a cube. and when i say half of a cube, it’s probably not what you’re thinking. each triangle represents half of the six sides of the cube. so half of a cube looks like this.

so i have absolutely no idea what i can or will use this for. maybe it could be the base of a table. or stack a couple up and get a stool. i don’t know. but what i like about it is that it looks very complicated but it is actually fairly simple. all of the joints are right angles. it just so happens that they are pitched at all sorts of weird angles, and therefore look cooler. anyway. that’s it.

more photos

so here are some more pictures of the work from the show. i realized you couldn’t really see any details in the other ones.

and just in case you were wondering, here is the image that all of the threshold pieces come from. you can tell that i had to tweak the image to get the different parts of the picture to appear and disappear when i wanted them to. the hardest part was making sure that my face was part of the first image and lasted until the final one. and no, that is not satan over my right shoulder. that’s a screen print i did of one of the students that i work with. don’t worry, he looks much scarier than he is.

good show

so the show last night went really well. lots of people came out. i even sold some work! i’m not sure what the final tally was, but i think several of the photographs were sold. and even though the hanging was a complete nightmare (just in case you were wondering, hanging 255 small objects in a regular grid + high humidity + never having done this + starting hanging 6 hours before show starts = not a fun afternoon, (by the way, couldn’t have done it without jamie and erin and henriette helping out (thank you so much!))) everything got done and it looked really good. so enough words, here’s the work.

everyone is invited

hey everybody. so i have another show at homebody coming up this weekend. if you can make it on saturday night, it will be super fun. if not, swing by homebody during the next month and it should still be there. and if you’re nowhere near dc, then i guess you’ll just have to wait on the pictures.
