word of the day.3

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

yesterday there were two words. i have absolutely no idea where they came from or how or if they are related. they were hirsute and meshuga.

hirsute - adj - covered with stiff short hairs

meshuga - yiddish - crazy

massive update

Monday, April 16th, 2007

so i’ve done a lot of things over the past month or so, but just haven’t posted them. so here it is, your month in review in pictures and captions.

first up, this is an idea i had for a self portrait series. the final series will be made up of 255 of these 5″ x 5″ mini portraits, each one slightly different than the one before and after. the versions you see here are all 36 steps apart, so you can imagine the subtleties between two adjacent pictures. anyway, it’s called ‘threshold’, and if you’ve used photoshop enough, you’ll know why and how i’m doing it.

next is a lampshade. i want to start doing smaller scale, graphics driven design, using the laser engraver and screen printing more.

we had a graduation ceremony for the afternoon class of artisans. lots of people came. it was really good to see them recognized.

i made them each a small portrait of themselves. they seemed to like them.

i made a prototype for a stool that john giesecke designed while we were doing that whole hotel thing. i obviously hadn’t started the sanding process yet. the end product looked pretty hot.

matt barinholtz and i took the morning class to the arboretum to see the bonsai trees and the koi pond.

i began looking at other ways that we could make john’s stool.

and then i scaled it up a bit to accentuate the presence of the shape (the man and the chair are thrown in for scale. these are all at 1:6. the small stool is the original. it would stand at about 20″ and the tall one would be at 32″).

ok. consider yourself updated.
