Hello people I know and other internetters!

I just realized that I hadn’t exactly explained how things were going to go from now on. You see, I’ve now got this other website, barningerandcouch.com, and a whole ‘nother blog here. I thought about keeping this one here for some personal stuff, but that’s just not in the cards right now. Maybe some day. Anyway, me and Jeff (he’s the barninger part) are making some cool stuff, so you should come by. That is, if anyone is still out there.

LED clock

Saturday, February 9th, 2008

first of all, do you think this would be a cool clock? second, could you tell what time it is?

this is a flash file, so you’ll need the plugin if you don’t have it. also, i couldn’t make the script work perfectly so you have to wait one minute before the actual time updates, so watch the pretty lights move and then it should actually get the time right.

and once again, i am unable to embed the file so click on the picture to see it. man, this internet stuff can be annoying.

way too long

hey kids, sorry about the big gap here. someone stole the internet from my house and i’m still waiting to here back whether my renters insurance covers it. i just hope its okay. until i get that figured out, i have to wait on the opportunities where i can bring my laptop into work. and i don’t know about you, but carrying around my $1000 laptop in my neck of the woods is not exactly exciting. so you’re going to have to take what you can get from here on in. all apologies. so enjoy the new/old shit.

a short compendium of artisan slang

Jont - n. - possibly derived from ‘joint’
an all encompassing pronoun. can be used in place of any place or thing, sometimes even people.
Ex.- ‘Hand me that jont right there.’

Jack - n.
A cigarette

Moe - pers. pron. -
Used to refer to anyone, generally when speaking to them.
Ex. - ‘Hey moe, let me hit that jack.’

Joe - see ‘Moe’

Woot, woot, woot - ?
Used in place of insignificant dialogue. Similar to ‘yada, yada, yada’ or ‘blah, blah, blah’, but slightly more positively biased.
Ex. - ‘I was talking to this girl and i was like woot, woot, woot.’

Yeah -
Similar to ‘woot, woot, woot’ but used more in place of states of being rather than dialogue.
Ex. - ‘I was talking to this girl and i was like woot, woot, woot, and she was yeah.’

Whomp - int. - thought to derive from comic books or cartoons
Used to negate anything the user of ‘WHOMP!’ doesn’t agree with. Note: must be delivered with force. Ideal usage begins before the opposing side has finished their sentence.
Ex. - Me - ‘Tyrone, can you help….?’
Tyrone - ‘WHOMP!’

Yooooooooooo - int. - derivation unknown
Strikingly similar to WHOMP! Same usage rules.
Ex. - Me - ‘Tyrone, those are the ugliest pants I’ve….’
Tyrone - ‘YOOOOOOO! I look like a rockstar in these jonts!’

photo update

well since the show it has been stone cold as far as inspiration goes so i’m going to post some pictures that i’ve taken recently, just because i can. first are a couple of ’self-portraits’. one from the highway outside of the shop, and one on the metro.

this is the kind of thing that catie loves to do. reflections and projections.

and then the other day i took a self-guided tour of the alleys of capitol hill. there are a lot of great numbers and letters in these alleys. here is a set all from the same alley (not sure what the name is).

and then of course there is the requisite refuse. anyone who knew me during my photography phase in college knows that i have a fascination with toilets, but i really do believe that they may be one of the most beautiful objects that as a human race we have produced. and when you put it in a new context, it turns the whole area into something new.

during my wandering, i came to understand something that has always disturbed me about capitol hill. when you’re on the main streets, there are no power lines. as in none. what i realized is that all of the wiring for a block comes out of the ground in the alley and from there stretches to all of the houses. this makes for visually wonderful wire systems, but the agony of maintaining this area has got to be immense. and all for the sake of a little aesthetic fetish.

not quite all to myself (if only someone would enjoy my stephin merritt references as much as i do).

earlier this week, elaine and i (i recently heard someone argue that ‘me and elaine’ is actually the correct phrasing, but if that’s the case, i may have to requestion all of my grammatical foundations, so i’ll just stick with ‘elaine and i’) got the opportunity to go to the big city for a big covenant house annual dinner fundraiser thing. it was held at the waldorf astoria, which is super nice. we also were able to go see ‘the color purple’ on broadway and it was incredible. it was a fun quick run up the coast, but i wish i could have stayed longer.
